If you are flying into Avalon airport the commute to MCEC will take between 40 - 50 minutes. You can catch a taxi from outside your terminal or request an Uber.

  • Once in the city, you’ll come to appreciate Melbourne’s grid layout which makes it one of the most convenient cities in the world to navigate. The extensive public transport network offers trams, trains, buses and taxis providing ample options for those wishing to explore the city landmarks, culture, food and wine and events.

    TRAM

Tram routes 96, 109 and 12 (Stop 124A Casino/MCEC) will all take you to the Clarendon Street entrance. Otherwise, tram routes 70, 75 and the City Circle (Stop D5) take you to Flinders Street. From there, it’s just a short walk up Clarendon Street until you reach the MCEC. Travel on trams is free in Melbourne's Central Business District and Docklands. All stops within the free zone are clearly marked and tram drivers will make regular announcements when approaching the zone boundaries.

MCEC and the Environment

The Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre (MCEC) has been chosen, in part, due to their robust and evolving sustainability focus. There are a range of policies in place to address and mitigate where possible the environmental impact of large scale events such as WHSMelbourne2024. Below are just a few of the policies they have in place:

  • Pathway to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030

  • Maintain EarthCheck Gold Certification (achieved in 2022 and exceeded target with Platinum Certification in 2023)

  • Transition to renewable energy (target of 100% renewable electricity by 2028)

  • Prioritise local ethical sustainable suppliers

  • Water conservation (in 2022, consumed approximately half the potable water than the region leader)

  • Waste diversion (diverted 26,000 single use coffee cups from landfill in 2023 thanks to a new reusable coffee cup program)

  • Contribution to net increase in biodiversity, habitats and ecosystems health in Victoria
